Good idea would be to listen to the people you want to organise, listen and help them with their problems, once they see that this accomplishes something and makes their lives better you will have an easier time promoting more egalatarian acts like this. (Edit: Just read that you wanted to start with friends and family, as long as you know them you should know what topics they care about, prepare accordingly)

Don’t talk down to anyone, no matter how libshit their takes are, don’t lie and be prepared to undo some brainwashing.

Remember to keep it democratic, don’t force anything. Let it happen naturally, help people with educating themselves and offer suggestions and warnings to their ideas.

Most importantly: Be realistic. You won’t be able to do much in the beginning. Do what you can and even if you can’t make lasting changes or the organising process doesn’t go like you wanted/planned, be proud of what you did achieve.
