We’re launching Spaces— the next frontier for how to group rooms and people in Element and Matrix. Join the public beta!

Element is now getting closer and closer to be a 100% viable Discord alternative. Now, as a beta feature you can group your rooms and conversations in a public, private or personal, way, which means you can have something similar to Discord channels with various rooms for certain topics.

Even though it is only available on Element right now, it seems it might come to other Matrix clients in the future as well.

      I would prefer if they did a clean build system and helped with F-Droid main repo build. Most issues I use to read in F-Droid are because of dirty build system configurations and/or faulty help.

    i think the main function element has been missing this entire time, is a hotjoin voice channels (preferably with mumble). without that, it will never be possible to move anyone from discord.

    spaces is a good thing yes, better than the communities function for sure. but i don’t see why they made it a priority over voice (the primary missing feature), when they had a somewhat functional solution already in place.

      I mean, for one to be able to hotjoin voice channels it would be pretty much a necessity to group servers first. Imagine have a mix of your chat rooms and voice rooms in the same space on the “rooms” tab, specially if you group them by activity.

      Considering it went from WhatsApp/Signal/Telegram competitor to that AND a potential Discord competitor in such a short time, we can at least hope its development goes even further.

      Yeah, it just works now. The only thing I wish they would do is give an option to hide the rooms you have in a Space on the “All rooms” area.

        Couldn’t find it on the webapp but on android it’s in Labs “Experimental Space - Only show orphans in Home”. Doesn’t work for DMs though.
