Nitter is an alternative libre frontend to view twitter: https://github.com/zedeus/nitter The purpose of the project is so you can access twitter without requiring you to run any non-free JavaScript code.

By the way there is also a something like nitter but for YouTube. It’s called “Invidious”. Basically the same thing, but allows you to view YouTube without requiring you to run any proprietary JavaScript code. I actually use it all the time. You’re just not able to participate (like, comment, etc.) but you can have an account and subscribe to channels so you can get an aggregated feed.
There is also FreeTube, which is a Desktop Application for Windows, macOS and Linux that is a bit more advanced than Invidious and if you’re on Mobile there is also the NewPipe App.
I’m used to NewPipe! I love it and always use it on my phone to listen videos like podcasts! Everything else sounds super good!! Thanks a lot, comrade!

I guess I don’t understand exactly, what is the benefit of not having to run Java code etc.? Is this a privacy thing?
There can be multiple reasons. Privacy is one reason. But for example if you’re a Free (as in Freedom) Software enthusiast like me you avoid anything proprietary like the plague due to ethical reasons. Or maybe you use an older low-end machine that can’t quite deal with all the bloat these websites try to load, which can especially be beneficial if you’re on a Laptop.
EDIT: Also in the case of NewPipe it has actually more features than YouTube. For example you can just download videos.
