I can’t for the life of me figure out what is cringe here. The handshake? Women in the military? Being happy to meet the leader of your country of 1.5 billion?

The only explanation I can think of, is that to redditors a chinese person doing anything is cringe.

It’s a video and they think it’s cringe when the troops put on a performance. On the plus side it looked like a lot, possibly a majority, voted non-cringe on their automod comment. On the downside I think they’re all wildly racist or explicit neonazis that think China is fascist.

All troops put on a performance when meeting an important person, be it a high ranking officer or a president of a country.

Exactly. Just think of the shit American troops would do for politicians who are complete fucking evil.

I think the cringe part is supposed to be when they put on a little show and one of them plays clarinet. Isn’t cringe, but I can see the westoid thought process that Xi would shoot them on the spot if they missed a note in the anthem or something stupid. Also I’ve never been on that sub before I just had to look it up because I was so confused how just a handshake could be cringe 😬🤮

holy shit they’re so racist wtf also lmao I was right:

From what I can tell with my half baked grasp of Chinese, he’s visiting a subdivision of the military(perhaps a training school) of some sorts to just check in on them and learn about their situation. So then this group of girls all put on a performance to welcome/show gratitude/possibly suck up so they don’t get gulaged.

There’s also a guy saying that every Chinese exchange student he’s met has been “brainwashed” and refuses to demounce the ccp even when they’re not being recorded. Someone points out that he sounds brainwashed and he takes offence at the US even being compared to China. Then as a cherry on top, someone just adds on a long ass post saying that the Uyghur population has decreased so much that they now exist in negative numbers in some areas. I really hope that last one is a jerk…

Wow, it’s almost like they like their country and like the CCP. Is it really so fucking impossible for these people to imagine a reality in where they are wrong assuming China is hell on Earth? I guess when you’re that personally invested in bullshit it’d feel like your whole person collapsing to admit fault or even just to admit non-omniscience.

Typical angloids trying to force Chinese students to denounce their own government…

Because how dare they not 100% agree with the white man, obvious he is 100% knowledgeable on every non-white culture amirite?

Here in the US I have absolutely heard this kind of stuff IRL. My favorite is when a professor confided in me that he was worried that all Chinese students were possibly communist spies being controlled by the CCP via the campus’s Confucius Institute. Now I guess he doesn’t have to worry about that since the Federal government in the last 2 or 3 years revoked public funding for universities with CI’s so only rich private colleges like Stanford have them now.

Top Secret CCP Four Point Plan to Radicalise Overseas Chinese Students:

          1. They go to the USA
          2. They look at the USA
          3. Lunch break
          4. They become communist spies

Not too sure about the context but roughly translates to

“Xi emphasises to closely follow the the party’s goals (under new circumstances, not too sure what it means here) to strengthen/improve all aspects in the further development of the armed forces”

It’s basically the new material conditions for the world in the foreseeable future, of China-US decoupling (totally solidified trade war under Trump).

We got new official-speak about “new circumstances new goals new demands” since around 2019. Basically new this new that is just the way they like to name policies now since everything of this decade is under “XJP new era” ideology.

I don’t think it’s just simple racism but rather it’s because us living in West don’t respect our leaders as much (an example is laughing at our politicians going to visit schools while at the same time cutting funding), Xi has much more popularity (why these women are excited) in raising China’s living standards while ours stagnates for our younger population and so people unconsciously view this as weird/alien.
