I have two small kids. I break the spaghetti like this so I don’t have to cut up their plates or clean sauce off the ceiling, again…
It works and it makes it easier to portion on plates & prevent my spouse & I from overheating.
In a couple years, when my kids are bigger, hopefully I can return to cooking without snapping…
Yeah, whenever I cook past for my little sister I do that. And also I really don’t care about the “original” recipe or whatever. I just like to experiment a bit sometimes.
I’m also big in the experimental department, but breaking spaghetti is kind of weird, since you can buy basically any other form of pasta and it’ll be shorter out of the box…
Yeah but if I already have spaghetti at home I would use that instead of going to the grocery store again. (:
You could also just buy differently shaped pasta :D
I considered doing that once, but you can’t group too many spaghettis, otherwise they become unbreakable. And I’m not breaking them (close to) individually, that’s too much work.
So, I’ve gone back to the Italian-approved™ method for fitting them into a pot, which is to put them into the water as far as they go, and then once that part has become soggy/soft, you can slowly shove in the length that’s still sticking out of the water.
I like cooking spaghetti this way too because when I roll my fork to wrap the spaghetti around it, the resultant ball of spaghetti is bigger which allows me to eat like the hog I am.
Break the whole pack in half then dispose the first hand of pasta in the water while rotating the spread so it’s not a big chunk.
