I… kinda am. I’ve been one since the 2000s although I first liked the OT before sort’ve liking the prequels. I get that in many ways the franchise has sold out, but I like the new content.

Minus the ST, of course.

Anyone interested in The Bad Batch? Or The Mandalorian? Maybe that Boba Fett show coming out?

I tried to get into it (as an adult) but couldn’t. The special effects are excellent. Even if you watch the first print of Star Wars Episode IV it looks beautiful. But I don’t like the plot much. Biggest problem I have is that Skywalker dynasty seems to be just biologically predisposed to be exceptional force users. So Luke kinda feels like Jesus though he was made to face some hardships. And the whole plotline where Anakin gets turned to the dark side by a combination of manipulation and Palpatine and improper handling from the Jedi Council feels unconvincing. Not the turn itself but the way it was written and shown.

I have a friend who is super in Star Wars and has read books, comic books, played KOTOR I and II and other games. He knows about the Star Wars universe more than most Star Wars fans so maybe in other places these objections of mine are addressed but I am just commenting based on the main movies.

I feel they missed an opportunity for showing some nuance and dialectic when it comes to the dark vs. the light side of the force. As it’s shown, light side seems angelic and the dark side seems cartoonishly evil.

But the game Fallen Order is very fun, even if it’s not as good as Sekiro.

There is sooo much potential with force / force powers, but in the movies it’s limited to force… pushing over some droids or jumping high.

One other objection I forgot to add which is relevant to the force is in the new movies they added this.l mechanic where someone can physically manifest themselves across the galaxy using force sometimes even after they have died (from doing this exact same thing). IMO this was lazy and awful. Now writers and can whatever the fuck they want and the viewer is at their mercy because there is no telling for what one can do with the force.

From a politics standpoint I think the sequels are libshit, but entertaining. Prequels (I know, I know) and OT had much more biting political commentary, imo.

That said, I still enjoy most Star Wars content. Including the new High Republic book that all the chuds hated.

They’re pretty good. I am excited to see what happens. I really dug the voices and effects in the audiobook.

I’ve been told that a lot of the book series are actually pretty legit. Especially the ones with darth revenant.

The books are better than they have any right to.

Have you played KOTOR and those games? I’ve had friends that loved the stories in em… I might try and see if I can find a storyline movie version on youtube if they’re good.

Yeah I played KOTOR at release when I was a teen. They are exceptionally well-written games, especially considering when they released. I would recommend finding a plot synopsis though because the game has non-canon branching paths.

I used to watch the first two trilogies a bunch when I was a kid, I remember getting my dad to tape that Clone Wars show when it came on-- we didn’t get DVR until streaming was starting to become a thing, haha.

The only ones I’ve watched somewhat recently are Hope and Empire. There are very few shows and movies I watched as a kid that I go out of my way to watch again. The rest, I’m comfortable with it sitting in my memory as something I’ve enjoyed.

If any more movies come out I’d probably watch them. RoS was the only one of the new Star Wars films I actually hated, the rest were just kinda AAA blockbuster mediocre. Idk. So… I guess I’m still a fan?

I would suggest The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch (the sequel to The Clone Wars) when you have the time. Same with The Mandalorian.

I’ll have to check them out-- I always enjoyed the world of Star Wars.

Very late to the party, but I’m having a great time reading my way through many of the books I never did while growing up! The (tragically unfinished) Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss was surprisingly good, and there is even a game tie-in (though I have yet to play it).

But on the whole, the ST has pushed me to check out the Expanded Universe from the 80s and 90s. The X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole has been good fun so far. I’m also hoping to get a copy of Dark Empire to read, just for the novelty of it.

Despite the mis-handling by Disney, I tentatively am still looking forward to Kenobi, which should release this year. I liked The Bad Batch!

Karen Traviss sucked with her later works, but yeah.

Do you mean the Legacy of the Force series? Or the later ones in the Republic Commando line?

Her later works (like the last 5 years of her writing books for Star Wars).

She was also quite, err, vocal about Clones being Mando-wannabes and outright hating the Jedi’s guts, among other issues that permeated her writing, which didn’t fit in with the general canon.

She’s also quite reactionary. But yes, she apparently did good work with Republic Commando from what others have told me.
