For literary roleplays and possibly a novel, I created a pair of sci-fi nations, one “communist” and one “imperialist”, inspired by Star Trek’s post scarcity world and the Cold War, and with the alien character designs inspired by Pokemon species. This is something I’ve been brainstorming for quite a while and somewhat proud of, and I thought I’d share it:

It’s on Reddit currently, which I’ve linked here via Teddit: https://teddit.net/r/scifiwriting/comments/ljm2pt/the_physiology_of_aliens_keevia_version_3/

I’m not as well versed in communist ideology as probably most people here, so I would really appreciate some feedback. Are the conflicts between ideologies realistic? Is the Maloran Republic actually considered communist by M-L-M standards?

If I were to write a communist post-scarcity sci-fi, I would beforehand base myself on dialectical materialism (article in progress). For instance, you mention the Keevia species, but where is the planet Malorus located? How did humans find them? How does information travel that far, what is the form of locomotion, etc.

But I think what a communist novel would really benefit from is the description of life in a communist society, through the lens of a group of comrades who work together. The economical aspects of their life can be addressed through the context of their relationship with the whole society, or openly explained in some passages.

Similar to what Thomas More in his book Utopia tried, in his time. A premise like that could be interesting so the readers can notice the shortcomings of the capitalist system themselves through analogy with their own life.

Thanks for sharing, comrade. Your text inspired me to go write something up too.

I definitely have brainstormed a lot about their technology, which I plan to write about in future worldbuilding posts. Thanks for your insight!

Heeding your advice, I’ve also decided to write this piece about some of the technologies at the Maloran Republic, from the perspective of a mysterious, imperialist, and narcissistic “businessman” that seeks to acquire their technological advancements for profit. This character ties into the plots for this universe, which I have been brainstorming.

Here’s the objective lore version if the additions don’t do it for you.

Please let me know what you think!

Each of the significant in-universe technologies will eventually get their own worldbuilding post though, this is just me trying something different.
