Practice is over
General:
- Closed lighter practice today leading into our 3rd preseason game.
Injuries: CB Eric Stokes (PUP-Knee/Foot), TE Tyler Davis (ACL)
Not Practicing / Limited: RB Lew Nichols (Shoulder), RB Tyler Goodson (Shoulder), OL Luke Tenuta (Ankle), ILB De’Vondre Campbell (Ankle), Bo Melton (Hamstring), S Tarvarius Moore (Knee), FB Henry Pearson, WR Dontayvion Wicks, S Anthony Johnson Jr. (Knee)
Offense:
- After Musgrave didn’t get his 2 feet in for a touchdown yesterday in team drills on a well thrown ball by Love; the tight ends are working on back of the end zone drills and toe taps in individual work.
- Starters Love| Toure Heath | Musgrave | Jones - Dillon | Bakh - EJ - Myers - Runyan - Tom
- Jordan Love scrambles and finds AJ Dillon on the run for a 25-yard touchdown.
- Followed it up with an extremely rare throw at Jaire Alexander who was step for step with Reed. Ball out of reach anyway. Incomplete.
- Love - Watson - corner route 20 yard td off play action. Watson just outran Balentine (easily). Easy pitch and catch.
- Aaron Jones jet sweep for about 10.
- 2nd team OL: Walker - Rhyan - Empey - Newman - Nijman
- Dillon on a td run left side behind great blocks by Bakhtiari & Jenkins. That’s the vision when those two are healthy together.
- Love with a great back shoulder ball to Watson. Watson claims he caught it. The entire defense adamant that he didn’t. It will forever be a mystery. Nice ball by 10 tho.
- Nice ball from Clifford to a leaping Dre Miller who caught it but per the ref he didn’t get both feet in. Deguara signaled touchdown. Ref wasn’t having it.
- Keisean Nixon has now fallen down 3 times in coverage that has resulted in touchdowns this week. Jayden Reed wide open for the td from Love. Wide open on a slant from 6-yard line,
- OL shakeup: Bakh - Jenkins - Tom - Runyan - Walker
- Jayden Reed with his second td in red zone with tight coverage from Nixon on this one. caught a stop in left seam in front of Keisean Nixon from 2. Beat Nixon across goal line.
- Back to Bakh - Jenkins - Myers - Runyan - Tom in next team session.
- Ok a speed option with Love Jones. LaFleur is in his bag today.
- Love ahead of Musgrave a bit, tries to make the one handed catch but bobbles it up to Savage who has two chances at the juggling 1 handed pick but ball falls incomplete.
- Tom great pass pro on LVN. Love fires for Reed wide open who drops it. Reed has been awesome but drops have been an issue.
- Now an option play from Love to Watson.
- Love fires again in stride on a contested ball to Heath but Heath doesn’t let Love down and uses strong hands to pluck the ball and hold on through the DB trying to rip it out.
- And now a reverse to Doubs. Definitely in the bag of tricks.
- Pressure inside from Wooden. Love finds Reed anyway.
- Clifford finds the right option to Cody Chrest between two defenders but the throw lets him down. Overthrown and out of bounds.
- Timeout offense. Too many men on the field.
- Sign me up for JaDakis Bonds on the practice squad. The flashes have been really fun this week.
- Ugly rep from Kraft. Clifford gave him a perfect ball in the corner of the end zone which Kraft misjudged and hit his facemask incomplete. Should have been an easy td.
- End of half. No timeouts. 28 second left. Ball on own 35.
- Rollout for Love. Incomplete. Apparently they only get one play. 2s in now.
- Big play from Clifford to Watts with a completion and a spike with 12 seconds left. Made a nice catch off a post for 28 yards. Again only get the one play and spike.
- Jayden Reed wins the play for the offense, catching pass across the middle for 16 on third and 10. A tough sliding catch. Clocked it with 4 seconds left, setting up a 40-yard fg.
Defense:
- Anthony Johnson Jr. is not practicing.
- Starters: Gary - Slaton - Clark - Smith | Quay - McDuffie | Rasul - Nixon - Jaire | Savage - Ford
- Not sure if Jordan Love would’ve gotten the throw off in a real game (doubtful) - but Rashan Gary put some serious pressure and was coming right at Love for the sack.
- Love to Dillon in red zone but Rashan drive him to Preston for a likely sack.
- Karl Brooks with some serious pressure to get in the backfield during team drills. The rookie has had a pretty solid summer.
- Luke Musgrave blocking Rashan Gary 1x1 is a choice. Gary with an easy win and likely sack. Love fires high for Doubs anyway. Rashan Gary running around giving people the Mutombo wag after his second sack/pressure in five passing plays during red-zone period.
- Another pop pass jet sweep to Musgrave. Enagbare and Ford all over it. Nice job by 55 against Bakh.
- Great pbu and coverage by Hooper on Heath. Clifford didn’t give Heath a great ball on sort of back shoulder fade.
- Rashan Gary vs. Zach Tom did not end well for the 2nd year offensive lineman. Gary just dominated at the line of scrimmage.
- Three pressures for Karl Brooks already in practice, too. Kid is gonna get some significant run this season.
- Devonte Wyatt would be sack on Love. Gary there too. Coverage sack for sure.
- Entire pocket collapses on Love. Brooks, Enagbare, Wyatt, Van Ness all in there. Would be sack. Not sure who would have got credit.
- Love and Toure not on the same page. Valentine all over it anyway.
- A third sack for Rashan Gary today. Shared it with Devonte Wyatt, but created initial pressure beating Zach Tom on an inside move. The guy is on a tear.
- Rasul great pbu on Doubs. Doubs should have had it though. Right on his hands.
- Jonathan Owens just made a beautiful PBU on a ball that Samori Toure had to go up and get. Would’ve been a sweet catch, but an even better PBU by Owens.
- Keshawn Banks with a phenomenal pass rush on Elgton Jenkins for an easy sack of Love. Impressive from 51.
- Ballentine & Gaines with great coverage on Reed. Love throws it through the end zone. Banks with pretty solid pressure through Tom.
Special Teams:
- Carlson: 33 - Good 42 - good - right down the middle 44 - good
- Carlson now 5/6 today. Good from 45, off the left upright from 47 and good with about 10 yards to spare from 53.
- 50 yard fg attempt with the entire team screaming at him and throwing water in front of him. No good.
- Same thing - this time good. Team was having a fun time trying to distract him. Carlson ends the day 6/8. And that ends practice for the day (and really camp for this year). Thanks again for tuning in.

Interviews:
LaFleur Presser:
- LaFleur: “I think it’s safe to say Sean (Clifford) is our No. 2 quarterback.”
- “They’re going to play,” LaFleur on Love and the starters in the final preseason game. Except for Rashan Gary, who will not play.
- When asked about TE situation, Matt LaFleur mentions the Packers could use offensive linemen as an extra blocker, too. They obviously haven’t done that during the Marcedes Lewis Era but a possibility with Tyler Davis out for the year.
