Worth emphasizing that they are doing a full lockdown and millions of tests over 100 infections. Meanwhile western governments take no measures when hundreds of people are dying every day.

Yeah, my WeChat friends talked about this, though they have confidence in the government and say that it’s under control.

Good on them for catching this incident before it became a bigger problem.

Shelter in place orders feel terrible, but it’s better than letting hundreds of thousands die of a horrible disease cough US cough

Important to note that just ordering a lockdown isn’t effective at all unless the government helps people survive the lockdown. Even if it is something like the bare minimum of providing food it goes a long way. This is one of the reasons why lockdowns in India weren’t successful because labourers living on their income day to day had the options of either violating the lockdown or dying.

Really surprised cnn isn’t calling this lockdown authoritarian, but they’re close.

The restrictions are some of the strictest imposed in China since the country largely contained the spread of the coronavirus in March. They are reminiscent of the draconian lockdown during the initial outbreak in the central city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus was first detected in December 2019.

At least they seem to think it’s warranted, ya know, since 300k people have died so far in the US due to the government’s criminal negligence in refusing to enforce lockdowns.
