China has announced plans to build a giant solar power space station, which will be lifted into orbit piece by piece using the nation's brand-new heavy lift rockets.
The idea of harvesting external energy to use on earth concerns me. We already have a net positive energy problem.
Granted, all the energy from fossil fuels is a drop in the bucket compared to all the energy that the earth absorbs from the sun, but there is a point where it becomes significant. But definitely at such a “small” scale (if you could call it that), the cooling effect of the removal of additional CO2 emissions would outweigh the extra energy input. Assuming we don’t just increase our energy needs in lockstep with so-called AI.
