The New Atlas’ video on Malaysia is such a shitshow. I don’t know if I have the energy nor time to dissect and discuss some of the things they mention.
But I really do hate zero-effort comparisons with different countries, like how the fuck is Ukraine or the US similar to Malaysia. They aren’t fully wrong per se but it’s genuinely grating.
But I’ll say this, the West had full control of Malaysia since independence, there is no ‘independence’ in this country. Just look at the education and background of many of the Malaysian PMs, usually American or British educated and/or from past feudalistic and aristocratic families that co-operated with British rule.
Independence was never a thing in this country. Our communist revolution failed and well… the rest is history.
I’d like to add that, the doesn’t mean the bourgeosie/establishment here is pro-West or something. Rather, they are more self-interested and ‘pragmatic’ in that regard but neither are friend of the people.
This one? I’ve skipped the recent videos with Angelo Giuliani because of his rants about trans people and “globalists”, but I’d be interested in a better analysis from a Malaysian perspective if you end up writing one

Also, I have heard about The New Atlas but only watched this one specific video - and I have to ask, is Berletic always this patronising?
I never thought of him as patronizing; he does come across as confident, but in his solo videos, he always presents evidence to support his claims (mainly by showing contradictions between different bourgeois media sources). Apparently the confidence is unjustified in this case, though
