The Lemmygrad mod team has deliberated and decided that “patsocs”, especially those claiming the title such as Maupin, Hinckle, and Infrared, are hereby banned and are not welcome on lemmygrad.

This ban does not include those who feel some level of “patriotism” (for lack of a better word) for non-settler states ( namely those who have historically been victims of colonialism ).

Discussions surrounding the topics of settler-colonialism, and decolonization will always be allowed, as long as they don’t veer into the territory of defenses of colonialism, or affinity with colonizer over the colonized.

This includes:

  • No apologia of settler-colonialism, or defenses of colonizer over the colonized. IE no defenses of Israelis over Palestinians, or European Settlers over indigenous americans fighting for the return of stolen lands.
  • Please adhere to the Marxist-Leninist principle of Right of Nations to Self-Determination: especially holding true for indigeous peoples.
  • Please adhere to the Marxist-Leninist principle of Proletarian Internationalism.
  • No social-chauvinism, or opportunistic appeals to “conservative values” to win converts to socialism.

Here are some Marxist books / resources to learn more about Settler-Colonialism ( Audiobook torrents are linked as well )

The term patriotism isn’t usually used for that: MLs more often use anti-imperialist nationalism, but even that is rarely used.

Take Cuba or Vietnam: they stress proletarian internationalism, which is not a love of their own people alone, but love for all oppressed classes. This is why Cuba sent troops to fight against apartheid in Angola.

Also, the word “patriot” has a very specific connotation to Americans, likely separate from how anyone else in the world would respond to the word. The word itself is heavily ingrained in US settler-state mythology. It’s practically inseparable.

Even if there was some promise in appealing to the patriotism of citizens in imperialist countries in a general sense, given the specific conditions in the US, it in all likelihood would not be a successful tactic. It’s a revolutionary dead end to appeal to US patriotism because “patriotism” in this country will always be tied to the yankee flag, the slave-owning aristocratic founding fathers, imperialist wars, and native genocide. People’s faith in US imperialist figures and iconography needs to be broken. Shattered. Not strengthened in an attempt to court reactionaries at the cost of alienating those from marginalized communities who may be on the cusp of a breakthroughs in developing class consciousness.
